About Coach Angelo
Angelo Grillo brings extensive playing and coaching experience to Michigan Soccer Training. As the previous Head Coach of Michigan Stars FC’s U23 team, he has built one of the Midwest Premier League’s most cohesive and disciplined squads. Known for his passion, tactical IQ, and player development skills. Angelo continues to lead our program with high expectations. Angelo is currently the Head Coach at Sterling Heights Stevenson for the girls and is the assistant for the boys as well.
As a player, Angelo was a three year student athlete at Northwood University. He led the team in assists during his junior and senior seasons in high school while anchoring the defense with composure and leadership. Off the field, he was a standout student—earning Honor Roll recognition and received academic + scholarship along with his athletic. Angelo graduated with his bachelors degree in just three years at Northwood whilst managing playing NCAA Division II level soccer. He is known to handle a lot physically and mentally and has true passion for impacting the youth to teach the lessons he learned in his experiences.
Professionally, Angelo also serves as Vice President of Sales at First Team Lending Group. He blends corporate leadership with coaching precision to help young athletes grow on and off the field.
At Michigan Soccer Training, Angelo’s sessions focus on tactical understanding of the game, creating space to generate opportunities, and consistent all around technical improvement. He has a passion that will light a fire in any athlete!
Angelo Grillo is a rising force in Michigan’s soccer coaching scene. Newly appointed as the head coach of Sterling Heights Stevenson Varsity girls soccer. Also, The previous Head Coach of Michigan Stars FC U23, Angelo has led his semi-pro squad in the Midwest Premier League with discipline, structure, and a strong tactical foundation. He is widely respected for his ability to build cohesive units, develop individual players, and guide teams to perform with purpose and intensity. In addition to his semi-pro success, Angelo is a trainer at Michigan Soccer Training, where he works with field players looking to improve every detail of their game. His sessions are fast-paced, detail-driven, and rooted in game-relevant scenarios. Whether working with beginners or aspiring college athletes, Angelo brings professionalism, energy, and a clear developmental pathway to each training session. Outside of coaching, Angelo serves as Vice President of Sales at First Team Lending Group. His leadership in both the business and athletic worlds gives him a unique perspective when mentoring young athletes—focusing on accountability, mindset, and performance.

Angelo played NCAA DII collegiate soccer at Northwood University, where he was a three-year player and key contributor on both ends of the field. Known for his leadership and vision, and tactical understanding of the game. He balanced athletic success with academic achievement, graduating in just 3 years.
Angelo Grillo played his DII collegiate soccer career at Northwood University, where he was a dominant player and a standout on both sides of the ball. Though known primarily for his defensive capabilities, Angelo also made an offensive impact— His high soccer IQ, consistent work ethic, and strong leadership earned him respect from teammates and coaches alike.
Off the pitch, Angelo was a model student-athlete. He was named to the Academic Honor Roll and recognized as a DECA State Finalist, demonstrating excellence not only in athletics but also in business and academics.
