About Coach John
John brings a unique blend of advanced psychology training and championship‑level coaching experience to his role as a Mental Performance Coach with Michigan Soccer Training. Originally from Ireland, he has spent more than a decade working with athletes at the collegiate and competitive youth levels, helping them strengthen the mental side of their game and perform with confidence under pressure.
He is currently completing his Ph.D. in Psychology and holds graduate degrees in Positive Coaching, Industrial & Organizational Psychology, and Organizational Development and Leadership. His academic background gives him a deep understanding of motivation, focus, resilience, and the psychological skills that drive high‑level performance.
John has served as a Mental Performance Coach for Great Lakes Christian College, supporting the program during its 2022 NSCAA National Championship run, as well as for multiple Nationals clubs across Michigan. He has also coached championship‑winning youth teams, including the 2023 U15 Michigan State Cup champions.
His approach centers on developing mentally strong, self‑aware athletes who can manage pressure, stay composed, and make confident decisions in real‑game situations. John focuses on practical, game‑ready mental skills such as confidence building, emotional control, pre‑game routines, visualization, and overcoming performance anxiety. His goal is to help players understand not just how to perform, but how to think, prepare, and respond like high‑level competitors.
